BYOB Pattern Instructions

 by WeasiesWorks

Note: This pattern is suitable for Advanced knitters, but can be accomplished by Beginners if they have a good grasp of how to construct pattern pieces. Most terms and methods used have easy to follow instructions on youtube.

This pattern can be knit with one or any number of yarns, but has 4 sections. When each new section begins, you can change to another yarn color. Your carrying strap can be made out of any material.
Decide if you are using ONE yarn or MULTIPLE yarns and follow the special instructions, when necessary.                                                                     Materials needed -

Step #1 - Prepare Provisional CO

Watch the above video or follow the pictures below.
CO 50 stitches, using provisional cast on, and starting at the end of the provisional CO. This will make it easier to remove the scrap yarn, in the last row. (This counts as Row 1 for the purpose of the instructions.)

Step #2 - Knit 1st Section

Row 2 thru 8: Slip first stitch and K to end.

Row 9: Slip first stitch, K to last 7 stitches, K 2tog, YO, K to end

Row 10 thru 16: Slip first stitch and K to end.

Row 17: Knit the first 9 stitches onto a DP (or stitch holder), K to end. Section 2 begins -

1 color - Working from Left needle, CO an additional 9 stitches at the end of this row.

Step #3 - Knit 2nd Section

(NOTE - when you get to the end of Row 15 and slip the stitch from the DP, there will be only one stitch left, which can easily fall off, so place that stitch on an open-able space marker or safety pin.)

Row 1:

1 color - Slip the first stitch and knit until you get to the last stitch

2 or more colors - With the working yarn from new CO, attach to the body of work by continuing to knit the stitches from the body of work, until you get up to the last stitch

*Bring the working yarn to the front of the work, and slip the last stitch and the first stitch from the DP onto the right needle. Turn work.

Row 2: K 2tog (the two stitches slipped at the end of Row 1), and K to end.

Row 3: Slip first stitch, K to last stitch, repeat (*) process in Row 1.

Rows 4 thru 7: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 twice more.

Row 8: Repeat Row 2

Row 9: Slip first stitch, K4, YO, K 2tog, repeat (*) process in Row 1.

Row 10 thru 17: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 three more times.

Row 18: Using DPN (double pointed needle) K2tog, then K8, (Using Right needle) K to end and follow the instructions for 1 or 2+ colors, given after Row 17 of Section 1.

Step 3 -
For the 3rd Section, repeat the 2nd Section

Mini Version Bag
Step 4 - The 4th and Last Section

Repeat Section 2, Rows 1 thru 15.

Row 16: Slip the first stitch and knit to the last stitch (DO NOT move the yarn to the front of work). Slip the remainder stitch from the DP to the working needle.

Row 17: (Notice the 8 prominent nubs on the lower end side of Section 1.) Keeping the yarn in front of your work, pick up the first nub and purl it together with the two slipped stitches (P3tog). Place that stitch back on the left hand needle and pick up the next nub. Purl it together with the proceeding stitch and the next stitch on the left needle (P3tog). Continue in this way until the 8 nubs have been incorporated into the bind off. Switch to 1st yarn color (if using multiple colors)

Start to remove the provisional CO, one stitch at a time, or by moving about 6 stitches at a time to your DP and then securing the remaining provisional stitches. Slip the first two stitches from the provisional CO to your left needle and purl them together with the next stitch on the left needle (P3tog).

Bring your yarn to the back. Place your last purled bind off stitch on the left needle.
All the rest of the stitches will be a knit bind off, as follows: Slip the next provisional stitch to the left needle and K3tog. Continue until you have used up all the stitches on your left needle.

Slip your last stitch to the left needle. And turn your work around, so that the left needle is now your right working needle.

There should be about 8 provisional stitches left. The amount is not crucial, so you have 9, K2tog. Slip them onto your DPN and purl bind off. You will need to keep bringing the yarn back to the front after each bind off.

Cut the yarn leaving a workable tail and secure the last stitch by pulling the tail through.

Weave in all the ends.

Either make an i-cord, or crochet a chain about 20" long. Thread the chain thru the eyelets and tie the ends together.
