THERE'S ALWAYS A NEED FOR A TISSUE
A few months back, I ordered some 5"x 5" charm squares online. I'm not sure why, because I did nothing with them for quite awhile.
I'm on this "work with what you've got" kick and I wanted to take time out from knitting, crochet and making my handbags. I wanted something quick and easy that could be sold (mostly to make room to create more things).
I had previously knit and crocheted some tissue cozies and realized that the size of the 5x5's were possibly a good size to use for a material version.
I futzed around with different versions of design and settled on this one.
What you Need -
4 - 5"x 5" charm squares
1 fat quarter or other yardage at least 12"x 21".
Instructions -
Fold your fat quarter in half length-wise to make a double sided rectangular piece 6x21" long and press the folded edge, including one end folded in .5". This is your starting end.
Fold each of the 4 - 5x5" charms on the diagonal and press.
Lay out your 4 triangles so that one corner of each is overlapping another triangle corner. Space them so that the piece measures 5.5x5.5" square. Pin or clamp in place.
*You will now be attaching the open edge of your rectangular piece to the outside edges of your triangular charms.
Start in the middle of one of your triangle's outside edges, leaving the folded edge loose (and NOT sewn). The other end's edge will be tucked inside the fold, at the end. Sew a .5" seam around until you have about 1" remaining to be sewn.
*Go slow around the corners and pivot, making sure your fabric is folded back out of the way.
When you reach the end, stop, and cut your thread. Slip the ending edge of the rectangle into the folded beginning edge and finish sewing the seam.
Finally, press the seams and turn your work right-side out and sew a seam along the closing (where the end is tucked in to the fold).
This is a good way to use up small scraps of material in a quick, easy project.
They're usable in your own house, but also nice for stocking stuffers or other small gifts.
Feel free to use this pattern and tell others where to find it.
Until next time...
